Cetacaine is a topical anesthetic preformulated with three active ingredients. Its particular composition is based on three different anesthetic molecules of the ester class:

•Benzocaine •Tetracaine HCl •Butamben

First, Benzocaine binds to sodium channels and reversibly stabilizes the neuronal membrane, which decreases its permeability to sodium ions and inhibits depolarization, thereby blocking the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses in just 30 seconds. This first phase of its anesthetic effect lasts for up to 20 minutes.

Precise placement and dosing with Cetacaine LIQUID

Cetacaine is available in gel, spray, and liquid forms. For dental hygienists, Cetacaine LIQUID is used to suppress a patient’s discomfort during periodontal procedures such as scaling and root planing. The liquid is applied drop-wise into the sulcus using its soft, micro-tipped dosing syringe that allows each highly viscous drop to flow effectively into periodontal pockets where it penetrates and anesthetizes the mucosa. Patients are comfortably anesthetized without an injection for procedures requiring only soft-tissue anesthesia.

With a duration up to 60 minutes, this Rx topical outlasts Benzocaine (15 minutes) and Lidocaine/Prilocaine (20 minutes). Here's how...

Put the science of Cetacaine's formula to work.

There is no shot—just a sigh of relief.

(14% Benzocaine, 2% Butamben, 2% Tetracaine HCl

Then, Tetracaine extends the duration of anesthesia by blocking the sodium ion channels involved in initiation and conduction of neuronal impulses up to an additional 45 minutes. Butamben works as an intermediary anesthetic between Benzocaine and Tetracaine HCl.
